As we settle into the month of August, there are some items that are needed at the local food pantry in Jefferson.

Coordinator Shirley Haupert says they need canned fruits and vegetables, boxed macaroni and cheese and canned tuna. They will also accept spaghetti noodles and sauce, along with hygiene products like packages of toilet paper, bar soap and dishwasher soap.

Haupert notes they will even accept monetary donations so that she can purchase bulk meat products from Jefferson Fareway and Hy-Vee and Iowa Pork Select. Forty to fifty packages of two to three pounds of ground beef can feed 60-75 people per month.

The Action Resource Center in Jefferson is open every Wednesday from 9am to noon for clients and donations. To make a donation, contact Haupert at 515-391-1025 or the First United Methodist Church at 386-4411.
