Greene County School District recently wrapped up their summer school program.

Second and third graders got the opportunity for real-world learning by participating in a project-based activity. The students created a garden area to beautify an outdoor space and get them interested in gardening. The students researched ways to attract wanted creatures and how to keep unwanted creatures out. They also planted flowers and made plans to implement a school garden this fall and into next spring. Plus, they made different types of feeders and nesting baskets for the outdoor classroom space.

It was part of the Project Based Learning Schoolyard Habitat Initiative. Staff who helped include: Lisa Garnett, Tyler Lowmiller, Tricia Schoon and volunteer Dave Walker.
