The statewide sales tax holiday concludes today, so there’s still time to get great deals on back to school clothing in Dallas County stores.
For the last 18 years, the Iowa Department of Revenue has held a sales tax holiday in August before school is back in session. It started as a way to make it easier for parents to get back to school clothes for their children. Clothing and footwear with a sale price less than $100 will be exempt from sales and local option taxes for the rest of today. Tax exempt items include: shirts, pants, hats, socks, shoes, and undergarments; uniforms for work and school; coats, bathing suits, leotards, tights, and diapers. Some items will remain taxable, including: computers, backpacks, school supplies, jewelry, and athletic equipment.
Businesses that sell qualified items and are open today are required to participate in the sales tax holiday.
