Greene County High School has a new girl/boy head cross-country coach. Superintendent of Schools Tim Christensen told Raccoon Valley Radio that Jeff Lamoureux will be heading the programs. Former longtime coach Kelly Simpson retired from teaching and coaching in the Greene County school district at the end of the last school year.

This is the first cross-country coaching job for Lamoureux, who is also the girls’ basketball assistant coach for the Rams. He lives in Jefferson and works here for Habitat for Humanity.  Lamoureux is a former Director of the Greene County Community Center and he talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about being the new cross-country coach. “I’m excited! Excited to be part of the program and excited to have someone have faith in me to lead the cross-country program. A lot of unknowns right now with the start of the season less than a week away. I’m a novice runner myself and do a few of the races around, so I’ve been around running. I know what it means to me and how I enjoy it and am excited to pass a little of that on to the students.”

Pat Gearhart, a member of the Jefferson Police Department, will continue to help with the program as his schedule allows.

The first official practice is Monday, August 7 and the first meet is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 24 in Ames at the Iowa State University course for the Gilbert Coed Invitational.
