A Greene County High School student will get to go on a trip of a lifetime to Washington, D.C. tomorrow.

Haley Hall is entering her senior year, but before that, she was selected to participate in Girls Nation, on behalf of the local American Legion Post Number 11. The process began for Hall last month, when she attended Girls State at Drake University. There, Hall says 270 high school junior girls from across the state ran for all elected state government offices. After five days of elections and speeches, Hall then gave a speech in front of 50 people and against six other individuals in her section about why she wanted to go to Girls Nation in Washington, D.C.

“I talked about how it would help my future because I want to go into politics, and I want to major in political science and international relations and all of that. And how it’s always been a dream of mine to go out there and this would be the perfect opportunity because we get to meet the President, hopefully.”

She describes what she wants to get out of her trip.

“I’m hoping to learn a lot, I mean I’m just going to take everything in. And then meeting all the different people. I mean there’s two people from every state out there. So I’ll meet people from Alaska and Hawaii, every corner of the nation which is pretty amazing I think.”

Hall will be in Washington, D.C. from July 22nd through the 29th.
