The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office recently found themselves in need of a new vehicle.
One of their sport utility vehicles was involved in an accident which resulted in the vehicle being totalled. While the sheriff’s office was not responsible for the wreck, they still needed a replacement quickly. The Board of Supervisors agreed to a purchase request for a 2017 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor Utility Vehicle, which will be paid as a normal line item from the sheriff’s vehicle budget. However, since they were not at fault, the Sheriff’s office will be reimbursed by their insurance company.
The Supervisors did have some apprehension in the purchase, as there have been reports nationwide of issues with the Explorer. A recall was issued because officers in similar models had lost consciousness due to fumes entering the interior. However, the problem was reportedly identified and corrected, so the Sheriff’s office doesn’t believe there will be any problems.
