The Stuart City Council met Thursday night in regular session.

The Council typically meets Mondays, but the meeting was postponed until Thursday because of a scheduling conflict. One of the first items on the agenda was a presentation from Forrest Aldrich of Karl Chevrolet. They recently moved into their new location in Stuart. Aldrich informed the Council they had gotten the approval of the Department of Transportation to remove a tree along Interstate 80. He also let the Council know Karl Chevrolet will be creating around 50 new jobs.

The Council then listened to a presentation from Rescue Director Joe Hupp about the Stuart Rescue Unit, as well as a presentation from Matt Dickson about using the sports complex, which the Council approved. They also approved the enforcement of nuisance properties within City limits, $30,000 in extra pay to the police department, a workforce housing tax incentive program application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority for a housing project, and planning and zoning recommendations as presented.

They also tabled the City’s fireworks ordinance, and discussed but took no action on a comprehensive plan for signage and intersection work. Finally, they approved a resolution honoring the late Dennis Morgan. He was a member of the Utility Board who died last week, and the Council wanted to recognize his hard work and contributions to Stuart.
