The Perry Jayette softball team will travel to Carlisle tonight for a 4A Region 3 Final with the Wildcats. The winner advances to the state championships in Ft Dodge beginning next week. Perry enters tonight’s game with a record of 26-10 after rallying to beat Waverly Shell Rock 4-3 in 8 innings Saturday. Carlisle improved to 25-14 after crushing Norwalk Saturday 12-1. The Cats unleashed a 14 hit attack against Norwalk with 7 extra base hits.
The two Raccoon River Conference schools are familiar with one another after playing twice during the regular season. Carlisle defeated Perry 11-5 on June 5th and recently rallied from a 3 run deficit in the 7th inning to beat Perry 8-7 on June 26th will a walk off homerun. Head Coach Tina Kenney is excited for a third chance to play Carlisle.
“They are a very good team. We have a good feeling for what they are going to do. They will probably use two pitchers and mix it up again in that regard so offensively we have to be ready for the challenges that can present. They are a team who will certainly put the ball in play so our defense needs to be ready. Our outfield, infield, pitcher and catching combination, everybody has to be on the same page.”
The winner of tonight’s game will advance to the state tournament. Both schools were state qualifiers last year.
Shawn Kenney will have the play by play tonight beginning at 6:45 on KDLS and streaming online at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
