With just one regular season game left on the schedule and then the postseason, the Greene County High School baseball team has a chance to have a winning season. Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams were 7-11 after an upset loss on June 22 in Jewell to South Hamilton, the last place team in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. What has followed is six straight wins and a 13-11 record with a trip to Alleman tomorrow to face North Polk, then the Class 3A District 15 opener vs. the ADM Tigers on July 14 at 5 p.m. in Harlan. The Comets are 22-7 while ADM is 18-11, so both are difficult opponents. Greene County can be no worse than .500 and one more win produces the second winning season in the last three for the Rams, and only the third winning campaign in the last 10.

North Polk will tie Saydel (Des Moines) for the HOIAC title if they beat the Rams tomorrow night, so Coach Dave Middleton’s Comets will have plenty of incentive heading into the final conference game of 2017.

ADM has two regular season games left before meeting the Rams and the Tigers have been on a nice roll late in the regular season. It’s likely the Rams will see the top pitchers from both teams. Likewise, Greene County will probably throw their top pitchers both Tuesday and Friday.

KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com will have Friday’s District 15 action, as will KKRF. Coverage on KG98 will begin at 4:30 p.m. with first pitch at 5 o’clock.
