Winterset held on for a 6-5 baseball victory over Perry Monday night at Progressive Field. The Bluejays entered the bottom of the 7th inning trailing 6-4. Aggressive base running allowed Perry to score a run when Alexis Garrido survived a pickle play after nearly getting caught trying to score on a wild pitch. Garrido used his athleticism to avoid the tag and make it a 6-5 game. Austin Carpenter advanced to third on the play and set up the 2 out situation for Aaron Lockwood. Lockwood got jammed on an inside fastball and hit a slow roller to the mound to end the game and give Winterset the road victory.
Perry’s Kyle Nevitt enjoyed his best start of the season tossing 4 strong innings allowing only 1 unearned run while striking out 6. Kaleb Olejniczak and Austin Carpenter each finished with 2 singles and a RBI. Garrido finished with 2 hits and 3 stolen bases.
Perry falls to 5-12 and 3-4 in RRC play while Winterset improves to 7-9 and 3-5. Perry returns home Wednesday to face Carroll on KDLS.
