Barring postponements, the Greene County baseball team will play nearly as many games this week as they’ve had the first three weeks combined. Coach Mark Sawhill’s team is 5-9 overall and 4-6 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The Rams go to Story City tonight to face Roland-Story, a team that edged the Rams in eight innings earlier this season in Jefferson.

The Rams are home Tuesday night with non-conference opponent Manson-Northwest Webster, then home Wednesday with conference leader Saydel on Wednesday. The Rams are the only conference team to win vs. the Eagles this season. A trip to Jewell Friday night to face South Hamilton is the fourth game on the schedule this week, with two on Saturday in the Kuemper Catholic Tournament rounding out the week.

Coach Sawhill’s top three pitchers have Earned Run Averages below three runs per game, but 10 unearned runs when those three have pitched have led to a combined 4-7 record. Plus, the Rams have not had as many timely hits with runners in scoring position as they would have liked.
