Greene County picked up its fifth win of the high school softball season and went 1-2 on Saturday at the West Marshall Tournament in State Center. Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams opened with a 12-0 victory in three innings by the 12-run rule vs. winless Gladbrook-Reinbeck. Class 3A tenth ranked West Marshall downed the Rams 4-0 and Des Moines Christian topped Greene County 10-3.

Hannah Promes, the lone senior on the team, hit a two-run home run in the second inning vs. G-R and totaled five runs batted in. It was her first round-tripper of the season and the fifth for the Greene County team. Faith Davis doubled and drive in two runs. Kyla Beyers also had two RBI and Jenna Beyers and Izzy Bravard each drove in one run. Jenna Beyers was the winning pitcher.

The Rams had just two hits vs. WM with sophomore Megan Carey collecting both. Promes pitched well, allowing just one earned run. Promes allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out four.

Six different players had one hit each vs, DMC to account for all the hits. Beyers took the pitching loss with relief help from Promes. Samantha Hardaway and Faith Davis had runs batted in for the Rams.

Greene County returns to Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play on Monday vs. Roland-Story at Roland. The Rams take a 5-16 record into the week.
