You might have seen some new artwork on the north side of the Greene County courthouse in Jefferson.
There are four new sculptures for the second annual Ring Out for Art contest, hosted by Jefferson Matters: Main Street and the Tower View Team committee.
Tower View Team Chair Deb McGinn says each of the four sculptures includes a bell. One of the pieces was submitted by last year’s winner, Tim Adams. Another sculpture is from two local artists Shane Olson and Joleen Peters. During the Bell Tower Festival, people can vote on their favorite sculpture and the top three will win prize money from Home State Bank. First place is $2,000, second place is $1,000 and third place is $500. McGinn talks about how their event was received last year.
“Well I think the support that we got from the community (and) they wanted to see it again. Everyone enjoyed the sculptures immensely on the bell tower plaza all year long. They got a lot of good comments at the Bell Tower (Festival), the people that came here. They thought it was so cool that we had these cool sculptures on our bell tower plaza.”
The top three sculptures will be on display for the rest of the year on the south side of the courthouse until next year’s entries arrive.
