In observance of Memorial Day, there will be a ceremony held in the Perry High School Performing Arts Center, and several city entities will be closed.

The Memorial Day ceremony is being hosted by the Dallas County American Legion Post 85 and the Perry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2060. It begins at 10 a.m. and will feature readings honoring the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and the 100th anniversary of Memorial Day and World War I. There will also be several musical performances, and a 21 gun salute by the Legion and VFW Honor Guards.

While the Legion and VFW are hard at work hosting the ceremony, the City of Perry will be taking the day off. The Perry Public Library, City offices, and Water Works office will all be closed. The McCreary Community Center will be open part of the day, from 1-5 p.m. The pool will close at 4:30. Additionally, there will be no garbage or recycle pickup. Monday’s routes will be picked up Tuesday, Tuesday’s routes will be picked up Wednesday, and there will be no yard waste pickup Wednesday.
