Greene County Conservation is hoping a new addition to Spring Lake Park will drive more people to enjoy another outdoor recreational activity.
Conservation Director Dan Towers says last fall they created a frisbee golf course at the park.
“We looked at it a little bit and I was hesitant. I thought it was a fad that came and went 15 years ago but in talking with about a dozen other counties that had them, they were all really surprised by the amount of use they got. We didn’t have a whole lot of room, so we only have a nine-hole course and it’s kind of compact but we’re anxious to see what kind of use it does get.”
Towers points out that the course is located by the ball diamond area of the park and the first hole is by the skating rink. He describes what the sport is like.
“The holes are anywhere from, like our’s are like 200- to 300-foot between the tee pad to the basket. The basket is on a pole and it’s kind of got a bucket in the bottom of it with some chains above that when your disc hits those chains, it drops into the basket to catch it.”
Future plans include having discs available for people to rent from the concessionaire, but for now, people can use their own discs and play on the course for free.
