A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to probation for an assault incident in March.
According to court documents, 39-year-old Michael Eugene Hamilton changed his plea to guilty for a lesser charge of a serious misdemeanor for assault. He was given credit for time already served on his 60-day prison sentence and the rest of it was suspended. Hamilton was placed on one-year probation with the Greene County Sheriff’s office. He was originally charged with a felony for his third or subsequent offense for domestic abuse assault.
The judgement stems from an incident on March 18th involving the suspect’s girlfriend. A Jefferson Police officer responded to the incident in the 400 block of East State Street.
Hamilton was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines, victim restitution, surcharges, court costs and attorney fees.
