A reminder that two Memorial Day services are coming up in Jefferson Monday.
A service will begin at 9:30am at the St. Joseph Catholic cemetery. The Jefferson VFW and American Legion will provide a firing squad to honor those veterans that have fallen as part of the “Salute to Our Fallen Heroes” program. Taps will also be played.
The other service will take place at 10:45am at the Jefferson Municipal cemetery. The local fire department will conduct the raising of the American flag and the Lindsay “Medal of Honor” flag. The Greene County High School band will perform “Salute to Freedom”, followed by the invocation delivered by Pastor Gordon Moen. The Patriotic Essay winners will present their stories and Retired Sergeant-Major Jim Riley will deliver a Memorial Day address. The event wraps up with another performance by the high school band, the VFW and American Legion’s firing squad and the playing of Taps.
Both services are open to the public.
