An increase of law enforcement in Iowa for the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau’s special Traffic Enforcement Program is now in effect.
The extra enforcement began May 22 and continues through June 4. Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright tells Raccoon Valley Radio the enforcement is especially focused on keeping people safe through seatbelt use and preventing impaired driving.
“We really just want to focus on educating people and keeping them safe through this especially active time on the roads.”
Despite a state law requiring seat belt use, Iowa’s seat belt usage is only 94-percent. According to statistics, the remaining six-percent account for about half of all traffic fatalities.
