Greene County High School looks for its first softball win of the young season tonight when the Rams play at home for the first time. North Polk (Alleman) visits the Rams at the City Diamond on East Lincolnway tonight in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams are 0-2 after losing two road games by a run each to top conference contending teams PCM in Monroe, 7-6, and CMB in Collins, 1-0. In the first Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union rankings, CMB is rated number one in Class 2A.
Following the Wednesday loss to the Raiders, head coach Tom Kennedy told his team he was proud of them and the way they played against a 2016 State Tournament team that returns its pitcher and most of the starting lineup. “All our goals we set before the season started are still in front of us,” the coach said.
NP downed the Rams in Jefferson last season and the Rams won in Alleman. Greene County will be looking to cut down on the strikeouts as they’ve fanned 28 times combined in the first two games, 15 vs. PCM and 13 vs. CMB. Offensively, six of the nine players in the batting order have one hit or no hits in the first two games.
Tonight’s action will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed “live” on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
