With the state meet just one meet away it was gut check time for both girls and boys track teams for Panorama.
The highly competitive 11 team field was no match for the Lady Panthers who ran away with their 4th consecutive district meet crown while a highly youthful and inexperienced boys team bested half the field with a 6th place finish.
The Lady Panthers first place performance came with 135 points and ten events representing the Lady Panthers in Des Moines next week. Junior Devyn Kemble doubled up on a pair of first place finishes besting the 400 meter dash field with 1:01.29. Despite have participated in the 800 less than five meets this year, Kemble topped the district 6 field wining and advancing with 2:23.12. After qualifying for state in the 100 meter hurdles (2nd place with 16.01 seconds), Morgan Johnk would tack on one more event to her list besting the entire high jump field with her jump of 5′-04″. The field events provided a heavy boost for Panorama as Bailey Beckman will now represent the Lady Panthers at state thanks to her 2nd place long jump of 16′-08.25″. Rounding out the individual qualifiers would be Lydia Knapp crowning herself district champion in the discuss event with her toss of 123′-09″. Relay events moving on for Panorama include the 4 x 400, 4 x 800, Sprint Medley, and 4 x 100 shuttle hurdle relay teams.
The Panther boys put up one of their more solid performances with nine personal bests and seven season best performances. Panorama will be represented by three events on the boys side, all of which were individual events. One event belongs to Matthew Webner coming back from his knee injury in strong form to take second yesterday in the discuss with a mark of 163′-00″. The other two events come courtesy of Spencer Hunt as the sophomore took second in the 200 meter dash at 23.83 seconds while placing second in the 400 meter dash clocking in at 52.08 seconds.
Both Panther teams will find out if there will be any others joining them with performance qualifiers listed later today.
