Organizers for Greene County Relay for Life deemed Saturday’s event at the Greene County Community Center a tremendous success.
Chair Peg Raney says they raised $33,400 with a few fundraising teams left to deposit their money they’ve raised. This year there was 18 fundraising teams, which team chair Autumn Larson was impressed with one of the highest number of teams participating this year.
“I am super excited. I have just been contacting all of the teams nonstop. I have been bugging them all the time and encouraging them, letting them know how much fun we can have and how we can do amazing things for this great cause.”
Raney points out that the silent auction brought in a record amount of $6,039, sponsorships accounted for $15,600 including in-kind donations and the new 50/50 cash raffle brought in over $800, with Adam Pedersen winning over $400. Other totals from Saturday include about 350 people enjoying the barbecue meal, 40 cancer survivors, 80 people participated in the Scrabble 5K and 80 luminarias were sold. Raney talks about the most impressive parts of the event were for her.
“Just people in our community that come and support, walk around the track, and purchase things, and pay food and put free-will donations in. It’s really the community coming together to support our survivors. It’s just a great day.”
Raney adds that everyone has until August to keep fundraising to hit their goal of $50,000. Donations can be made to People’s Trust and Savings Bank in Jefferson. Pictures from the event can be found below.
