The Boone High School girls’ soccer program has nine Greene County students on it, including six varsity players. Among that number is freshman Bailey Cunningham, the goalie for the Toreadors. According to Boone coach Chris Mann, Cunningham had 38 saves on April 11 during a 5-0 home loss to Class 1A number 5 Gilbert. Mann told Raccoon Valley Radio the 38 saves were the most in a single game in Iowa girls’ high school soccer to this point of the season.
The coach added he saw improvement from Saturday when the Toreadors lost 10-0 in a game shortened to 42 minutes because of the one-sided score. “All in all, we are pleased with the direction we went from Saturday to Tuesday. If we can play like that against a lot of other teams that aren’t going to be as tough as Gilbert, we will start notching some “W’s.”
Through their first four matches, Boone is 1-3 with two losses to Gilbert and one to Class 2A number 12 Winterset. The Boone girls play at home tomorrow vs. Ballard (Huxley), while the Boone boys travel to Newton on Friday.
