It was the home opener for ADM Tiger track and field last night with the annual Hugh Norman Coed Relays and with it the Lady Tigers defended their home track nicely.
Against an 8 team field the Lady Tigers walked away with a great 2nd place finish with a point total of 132.75, outdone only by fellow RRC powerhouse Carlisle who won with 164.00 points.
Head coach Bart Mueller witnessed 6 of his athletes earned double digit point totals on the day highlighted by 7 first place finishes. Keaton Kester took the reigns and paced ADM on the day with 24.5 points which included a pair of first place finishes in the 100 meter dash (12.62 seconds) and the 200 meter dash (25.83 seconds). Success was easily had by sophomore standout Sadie Juergens who gave the home town fans a lot to cheer about when she finished first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:27.60. Juergens was second on the team in scoring with 17.50 points on the day.
Fellow underclassmen standout Anna Kenny put on a handful of masterful performances but none better than in the 400 meter dash just edging out Van Meter’s Meagan Blomgren for first place honors with a time of 1:02.25. Josi Lonneman and Sydney Bertman paced ADM in the field events starting with Lonneman who tied for 4th in the long jump at 4′-04″. Sydney Bertman led the charge for the Lady Tigers in the long jump taking third with a distance of 15′-02.25″.
Four out of ADM’s 7 first place performances came from the relay events as the 4 x 100, 4 x 400, 4 x 800, and distance medley relay teams all earned first place while ADM’s 800 sprint medley, 400 meter shuttle hurdle, and 4 x 200 relay teams weren’t far behind with second place finishes.
Coach Mueller notated to Raccoon Valley Radio how ADM’s 4 x 100 meter time of 51.17 seconds should easily qualify the Lady Tigers for the Drake Relays in that event. The group is comprised of Sydney Bertman, Sami Schepers, Josi Lonneman, and Keaton Kester.
The next leg on the 2017 journey for the Lady Tigers will take them to Guthrie Center tomorrow against a 5 team field beginning at 4:30 pm.
