It was the home opener for ADM track and field last night with the annual Hugh Norman Coed Relays.

For the Tiger boys track and field team they kept up the early season pace taking their second straight third place performance as a team with a point total of 88. Dallas Center-Grimes took home the second place finish with 142 team points while Raccoon River Conference favorite Carlisle took the top spot with 162 team points.

In all head coach Mike Whisner had 24 participants for his team and leading the way for the second straight meet was senior Reece McLaughlin with 17 points.  Those 17 points for McLaughlin were highlighted by two second place finishes one in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.79 seconds while also placing second in the long jump with a distance of 19′-04.75″.

Mason Warmuth was second on the team in scoring as the surging senior earned yet another set top five performance hurling his way into second place in the discuss throw with a distance of 137′-03″. Mason also took home a third place finish in the shot put with a distance of 41′-09″.

Jacob West continued to be just as strong as ever in the high jump and earned the top spot with a winning height of 6′-03″ as the senior ended third on the team in scoring with 10 points.

Other top performances on the day included Kade Barcus and Brett Duroe placing 3rd (24.35 seconds) and 4th (24.83 seconds) in the 200 meter dash respectively. Sophomore Sean McGee came away with a 7th place finish in the 800 meters with his time of 2:22.04 and Sam McCartney raced his way into 5th place in the 400 meter hurdles with his time of 1:02.34.

ADM’s 4 x 800, 4 x 400, and distance medley relay teams all took 4th while the 800 sprint medley relay and the 440 shuttle hurdle relay earned third place finishes. The 4 x 200 meter relay team of Trey Volz, Austin Flora, David Howard, and Gavin Osteen took home a second place finish with a time of 1:36.00.

A lot of improvement made by coach Whisners Tigers as they slowly make their way towards the conference meet. The next leg of the journey takes them to Nevada tomorrow.
