The 2016-17 season is officially over for all 10 West Central Activities Conference boys basketball teams after Van Meter’s defeat in overtime yesterday to Pella Christian. That also means that with no more conference teams left in play, the All-West Central Activities Conference selections can be released.
For head coach Jake Mohling, he will see three of his Charger players earn their way into all conference honors broken down into one second team selection and two honorable mentions.
The Chargers’s second team conference selection was earned by senior letter winner Colton Sargent. Sargent led ACGC as the only player to average over 10 points per game as he ended his senior year averaging 11.5 points per game. Colton ended the season with the fourth highest rebounding total inside the conference with 140. He led the Chargers in free throws made with 37 and field goals made at 110 on the season.
The two Chargers who made their way onto the all conference stage by honorable mentions Caden Wardyn and Quynton Younker. Warden had a solid season where he averaged just over 7 points per game while leading ACGC in steals with 31 and assists with 48. Freshmen standout Quynton Younker had a season deserving of an all conference selection as the letter winner earned a 7.0 points per game average while having eclipsed 20 points in a game three times this season.
The Chargers graduate just two seniors from their inaugural ACGC roster which includes Colton Sargent and Karter Laughery.
