The Perry City Council met in regular session Monday.
At the meeting, City Administrator Sven Peterson said the North Street project is moving forward and the goal is to have the project completed in June.
A public hearing in regards to the fiscal year 2018 budget was held and the budget was approved as presented. The City’s levy rate will be $17.81 per $1,000 of taxable valuation, which is down around eight cents compared to the current levy.
A second public hearing in regards to the proposed contract documents and estimated costs for the sally port addition at the police department. The Council is expected to approve bids at the next regular meeting.
The third pay request for the sanitary sewer cleaning project was approved in the amount of $28,315 to AccuJet. So far, the contractor has completed nearly 58,000 linear feet of cleaning and televising of the sanitary sewer system, which accounts for around 75 percent of the total project.
John Wuebker was appointed to the Waterworks Board of Trustees for a six-year term through March 2023 and John McGee was reappointed to the Airport Commission for a term running through March of 2021.
A 28E agreement with the City and Lincoln Township for fire protection was also approved. The Perry Volunteer Fire Department will provide both fire and Emergency Medical Services protection and township residents will be levied 30 cents per $1,000 of taxable property valuation to pay for the service.
Spring clean up dates and procedures were then approved. The process will change this year as appliances will not be picked up as they have been in the past. However, Deputy Public Works Director Josh Wuebker says there is a free appliance clean up day at the recycling center this spring where residents can drop off such items or City crews will pick them up for a fee. Regular spring clean up collection will take place the week of May 1st, weather permitting.
Yard waste disposal dates and procedures were also approved. Items will be picked up on Wednesdays April 5th through November 15th. Yard waste burning will not be allowed this spring. The issue may be revisited again before fall.
