It’s another fresh new season of Iowa high school track as the first week of practices have officially concluded.
For the ACGC boys and girls track teams however, it’s more than just a start to a new season, but a chance to continue the excellence sustained over recent history.
Inside the world of ACGC Lady Charger track and field, they will be looking to not only emulate but to one up last year which sent 6 individuals on to the state meet while as a team finishing 7th in the final class 1A standings. They will be trying to make it back to the state meet stage and earn a championship outcome just like girls track did under the Guthrie County name back in 1995 when the girls team was state runner up in a tie after winning the 4 x 400 and 4 x 100 meter relay races.
Certainly a lot of championship pedigree in and around the ACGC girls track and field team and as Charger head girls track coach Dave Spratte told Raccoon Valley Radio, a significant part is due to the coaches.
“I think part of it is that there are a lot of area coaches that have a great passion for these sports and love to teach it. I think that passion has been passed on to these kids which has led to so many of these area schools being so strong,” explained coach Spratte.
The girls will officially start their return trip back to the state tournament when they commence with first meet action on March 27th when they head to Greene County for a 4:30 meet.
