It was the official win or go home atmosphere of the Iowa high school basketball postseason last night and for the West Central Valley boys basketball team, they would answer the call and step up in a big way to acquire a 66-45 win over conference opponent Panorama.
Last time out in the postseason between these two teams it was Panorama to come out with a big win but last night, head coach Nick Peasley and his Wildcats played one of their more complete games of the season witnessing three Wildcats to post up a double digit scoring night.
It all started fast and furious as the Wildcats jumped out to a quick 18-7 lead after one quarter and doubled that heading into the halftime break leading 32-18. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better for the Wildcats, they proceeded to post up one of their highest scoring quarters all season with a 22 point mark in the third quarter of last night’s game. That put the score at 54-31 heading into the fourth quarter where the Wildcats earned their first postseason win in over 4 plus seasons.
A trio of Wildcats led the scoring surge led by senior Logan Pruitt the most complete game of them all amassing 14 points, 11 rebounds, and a perfect 4 of 4 from the free throw line. Right after Pruitt was the freshman standout Malachi Peasley matching Pruitt’s point total with 14 with 12 of those points coming beyond the three point arc. The third Wildcat to hit double figures scoring on the night was senior Knick Baker earning 10 points for the contest.
The Wildcats now advance to the second round of the postseason where they will be traveling to Carroll on Thursday matched up against Kuemper Catholic high school. That game will commence at 8:00 pm.
