The eleven game losing streak is over for the Greene County High School girls’ basketball team. Coach Dean Lyons’ Rams were 44-34 winners on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com over Saydel in Des Moines on Monday night as part of a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference make up doubleheader. The victory improves the Rams to 4-16 overall and 3-12 in the conference. The Eagles fell to 2-13 in league play and 4-16 overall.

The Rams’ final margin was their largest of the night. The Eagles average less than 27 points per game and make just 20% of three-point shot attempts, but they made a pair of three’s in the first six minutes and scored 13 points. Greene County trailed 15-11 early in the second quarter, but took a lead of 18-17 at halftime, holding the Eagles to no field goals and just four points in the second eight minutes. Greene County led 33-26 at the end of the third quarter.

Junior Samantha Hardaway scored a game-high and career best 16 points and junior Laurin Lyons added 13 for the Rams. Greene County was 14 of 41 from the field and 15 of 24 from the free throw line. The Rams were one for five on three-point shots and had 18 turnovers.

Saydel went 11 of 43 from the field including four of 18 on three-pointers. The Eagles were eight of 10 on foul shots and had 17 turnovers. Sophomore Destiny Butters scored 12 points and junior Katie Schmidt added 11.

Greene County remains on the road tonight to close out the conference and regular season schedules at Gilbert. Both ends of the girl/boy doubleheader will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
