Iowa CentralIowa Central Community College’s $29.5 million bond fails to get the supermajority of votes needed to pass from Tuesday’s special election.

According to the Webster County Auditor’s office, who was the controlling county for the election, 58.5 percent of voters were in favor of the measure. However, it needed at least 60 percent to pass. The unofficial results show of the 4,841 ballots that were cast, 2,832 were “yes” votes.

Of the nine counties that voted, three were against the bond issue. Those counties included Greene, Humboldt, and Sac. Of those counties that were against it, the Greene County, Gilmore City-Bradgate, Humboldt, Twin Rivers and Odeboldt-Arthur School districts all voted the measure down.

As for Greene County, it was 142 “no” votes to 100 “yes” votes from for a total of 242 ballots cast out of 5,769 registered voters in the Greene County School District. However, Paton-Churdan School District voters were in favor of the bond with 34 “yes” votes to “13” no votes for a total of 47 ballots cast out of 813 registered voters.

There was a 4.19 percent voter turnout for Greene County School District voters compared to 5.78 percent voter turnout for Paton-Churdan School District voters.

Plans for the funds included a new student services center at the Fort Dodge campus, two career academies, general building upgrades, renovations to the Decker auditorium, safety and security upgrades, more classroom space, additional reserve funds and a new elevator at the Webster City campus.

All election results are unofficial until each county board of supervisors canvass the votes.
