The ADM Tiger wrestling team is now just three days removed from the DC-G Invitational where as a team they placed a solid 9th place overall finishing with 99 total points.

It was a tough field that included the likes of a powerhouse Creston/Orient Macksburg team ranked 5th in the class 2A preseason polls, and out of all of it the Tigers came away with a very solid showing. It just goes to show the grit and toughness that this ADM squad has and what head coach Justin Schmauss continually looks for out of his wrestlers.

Raccoon Valley Radio sat down with coach Schmauss as he spoke on what he looks for out of his team especially in the early stages of the season, mentioning how he seeks individuals who will compete and fight in every match night in and night out.

“Just staying in every match and fighting is it right now, that’s what we’re looking for, guys that are there and competing. They’re sticking with it no matter what the score is. That’s what we’re looking for; of course we want them to win but you know always trying to score points no matter what the score of the match is always a good habit to get into no matter what time of the season it is,” explained coach Schmauss.

Like any great coach, coach Schmauss is always looking for the betterment of his wrestlers in all kinds of ways, and that includes turning early season bad habits into strengths for his team later in the season.

“Right now it’s early and I know our guys are going to have bad habits and I know they’re going to have to clean up things. The sooner that we realize what those things are then we can develop them and turn them into strengths instead of having weaknesses,” stated coach Schmauss.

The next time coach Schmauss and his Tiger wrestling squad will put their talents on display will be this Thursday at Gilbert High School as part of a quadrangular that will included Gilbert, Collins-Maxwell-Baxter, and Greene County high schools. The meet will commence at 5:30 pm.
