For the second time in 14 months residents of the City of Panora has chosen a write-in candidate to represent them on the Panora City Council.
In a special election held Tuesday, January 22nd, Kimberly Smith was named the winner with an unofficial vote tally of 45, defeating Mark Humphreys who received 42 votes. There were also 5 votes that were scattered and the canvassing of the vote took place on Thursday, January 24th.
The position became available because Stew Firebaugh vacated the seat due to a time conflict with business interests. Firebaugh, as a write-in candidate, unseated Humphreys in the November 2011 election. The Panora City Council consists of five members and meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 6:30 PM and the chambers are within the Panora public building.
