A traffic accident caused two vehicles to suffer damages in Jefferson on Tuesday.
According to Jefferson Police reports, around 8:30am, Dawna Helms was traveling westbound on East Reed Street approaching an uncontrolled intersection. A red 1992 Chrysler New Yorker driven by Joy Fox was traveling northbound on Chestnut Street when she saw Helms’s marron 2004 Chevrolet Impala and tried to apply her brakes but lost control due to the snow covered road.
Fox slid into the intersection and collided with Helms pushing the two vehicles to the west curb. Fox’s Chrysler sustained $1,600 in damages to the front bumper cover and right front fender. Helm’s Impala suffered $2,200 in damages to the left rear door and rear quarter area.
Captain Mark Clouse reported no injuries in the accident and both drivers were wearing their seat and lap belts. Captain Clouse cited Fox for failure to yield to vehicle on the right which carries a $195 fine.
The Law Enforcement Center would like to remind everyone to use caution when driving in winter and remember that with snow covered roads, you must extend your reaction time because traction is decreased on slick roads.
