richard-nortonA Jefferson man faces a felony charge for domestic abuse.

Police Chief Mark Clouse says an officer and an Iowa State Trooper responded to a call of a possible domestic abuse incident in the 600 block of South Mulberry Street just after midnight on November 13th.

The victim told the officers that her boyfriend had left earlier that evening to get groceries and was gone for several hours. When she checked her bank account, she saw that he made purchases at a bar. When he got home, they engaged in a verbal dispute over the money, while he was highly intoxicated. Officers noted blood drops and injuries to the victim’s face that were consistent with her story.

That’s when 47 year-old Richard Lee Norton was arrested and charged with a Class D Felony for domestic abuse assault, third or subsequent offense. The arresting officer learned through Norton’s history that he had been convicted twice in the past for domestic abuse. Once in Minnesota on September of 2010 and again this past February in Dallas County.

Norton was booked into the Greene County jail.
