dscn4798One person was hurt from a two semi-tractor trailer accident in Greene County on Tuesday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash happened at 3:39pm at the T-intersection of Highway 25 and Elm Street.

Forty year-old Benjamin Paul Matteson of Guthrie Center was traveling north on Highway 25 and had his signal on to turn east onto Moulton Street, which was the next road north of Elm Street. Thirty-three year-old Travis Edwin Shannon of Lorimor, Iowa was stopped at a stop sign on Elm Street and wanted to turn left and head south on the highway. Shannon thought Matteson intended to turn right onto Elm Street and started entering the highway, when the vehicle Edwin was driving, a 1994 Peterbuilt semi-tractor trailer broadsided Matteson’s 2000 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer.

Neither driver was injured, but a passenger in Shannon’s vehicle, 41 year-old Michelle Ann Day of Fontenelle, was taken to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services with non life-threatening injuries. None of the occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

Damage to the Shannon vehicle, which is owned by Sickles Trucking of Greenfield, amounts to $25,000 to the rear driver’s side. The Matteson vehicle, which is owned by Iowa Energy Farms of Minnetonka, Minnesota, also sustained $25,000 in damages. Both drivers were cited for failure to use seat belts.

Greene County Sheriff’s office, Greene County EMS and Scranton Fire Department all assisted at the scene.
