As harvest is underway, area farmers are beginning to make important decisions for their operations, such as how much of their crop to sell and how much to store.
Adair County Extension and Outreach Farm Management Field Specialist Tim Eggers says there are many factors that go into making those decisions. “As you’ve been driving around the area, perhaps you’ve seen some lines showing up at the elevator. We will see that in the next few weeks, if it’s not occurring widespread already. There are some operations where there’s not as much on-farm storage or they’re making decisions of that on-farm storage and the use of that, and sending some grain to town that’s wetter or dryer, depending on how their drying system is set up, or depending on how much they’ve forward marketed.”
We’ll wrap up our conversation with Eggers today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
