As we’ve reported, Guthrie County recently took possession of a new Rapsican Systems walk-through metal detector to be used in the courthouse.
Jailer Michael Herbert says the Sheriff’s office changed their mind about ordering the metal detector with a wheeled-trolley to make it portable, after hearing a bad review of the product from the Rapiscan territory manager. “He didn’t recommend it. He said, ‘to be honest, it’s crap’. He didn’t like the way it was set up and says our maintenance staff could build twice as good a product for a fraction of the price.”
Once the metal detector is made portable. Herbert adds they still have to overcome the challenge of figuring out how to constantly man it. “That will be our big thing, since I’ll be sporadic with the schedule I have. It’s hard to be fingerprinting, be up in the courtroom and be down here. I would be hard-pressed to do that.”
Herbert says the decision on how and when to man the metal detector will likely be handled by Sheriff Marty Arganbright and the Board of Supervisors.
