A Perry man faces several charges after a four hour standoff early Wednesday.

According to Police Chief Eric Vaughn, the department received a 911 call around 2:30am.  The caller did not identify herself but by investigating the mobile phone number, officers were able to locate a possible address.  They attempted to make contact and a short while later a female exited the residence in the 1900 block of Warford Street.

She reported an assault occurred inside the home and police confirmed there is a current no contact order between the victim and the suspect.

The woman said the man that assaulted her was possibly armed in the house.  Officers tried to make contact with 38 year-old Johnnie Carl Starry but were not initially successful.  Family members got a hold of Starry and eventually law enforcement was able to talk him into peacefully surrendering around 6:30am.

Starry faces a Class D Felony charge for domestic assault by impeding breathing, along with charges for domestic assault, false imprisonment, obstruction of emergency communication and a violation of a no contact order.

Vaughn says Starry was taken into custody, transported to the Dallas County Hospital and then brought to the Dallas County jail.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.

The case investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
