An event aimed at celebrating the history and culture of small, rural communities in central Iowa takes place this weekend.

Iowa Heartland Resource Conservation and Development is hosting a museum crawl Saturday and Sunday.

Dallas County Conservation Museum Curator Pete Malmberg says he’s looking forward to seeing new faces.

“I work with the central Iowa cultural committee and we got a real wakeup call a little while back.  Some of the historical societies were telling us “they’ve got to get more people involved, they’ve got to be seen more, they’re getting older and need more support.  So we’re really trying to promote all of the museums in central Iowa.’

Dallas County museums that are participating include Forest Park, the Iowa Fire Museum, Dexter Museum, Redfield Museum and the Voas Nature Area.
