The Jefferson Public Library staff is hosting a special event today.
The State Library of Iowa holds three “Performance Showcase” events across the state every year. This year, Jefferson was selected as one of the three locations. The other two are in Waverly and Davenport. Greene County Chamber Director Roccie Hill says there will be about 75 librarians at the Greene County Community Center.
“And they watch 15-minute skits put on by performers. And then what happens is the librarians choose which of these performers they want to contract with to entertain kids and adults next summer.”
Hill points out that it’s also a great opportunity for the visitors to check out Chamber members when they are released for lunch.
“They will undoubtedly be wandering around the square (and) going into Addie’s, Printer’s Box, the Tea Garden, Uptown (Cafe), Homestead (Coffee and Bakery), Peony, all of our wonderful, wonderful restaurants and shops. We’re hoping to entice them to come back.”
The event is from 9am to 4pm and the public can watch the performances after 9:30.
