The Greene County School Board held its organizational meeting for the 2016-17 school year Wednesday night.
The Board elected Dr. David Ohrt as president and Dr. Mark Peters as vice-president. The Board then approved committee assignments with one change from last year and that was replacing Susan Burkett with Mike Dennhardt on the classified and administrative salary committee. The Board also approved Ashley Johnston as the Iowa Association of School Boards delegate. The meetings will also continue to be the third Wednesday of the month with a work session at 5:15pm and the regular meetings to begin at 6:30pm, with the exception of June through August where there aren’t any work sessions prior to the regular meeting.
The Board then approved a request to take seven students to the National FFA convention in October to Indianapolis; the 2015-16 annual report, the special education supplement and transportation reports as presented; requesting $444,330 in allowable growth for the special education deficit; the teacher quality professional development committee members for the school year; three fundraising requests; and forming an art club at the high school.
Finally, the Board discussed the next steps following the bond referendum failing to get the 60 percent supermajority needed to pass the $19.4 million bond. Following the discussion, the Board felt that their committee with Sam Harding and Teresa Hagen could meet with the Pay It Forward Committee to discuss how to proceed.
