It’s safe to say that the game of football has changed throughout the years from the professional ranks all the way down to the high school level. Once dominant formations such as the Wishbone and I-Formations have slowly been tossed away in favor of the shotgun or multi-receiver set formations.
Yet despite the gravity towards a pass happy system, just as much success by teams of any level have come at the hands of more balanced offenses. That is exactly one of the main goals for ADM head football coach Mike Whisner and his Tiger football team. When asked about one of the main points of emphasis for the new season, coach Whisner told Raccoon Valley Radio that despite some success with a pass happy system, he is looking for a more balanced approach this season.
” We want to be more balanced. Last several years we’ve thrown the ball around 60%-70% of the time. That was dictated by the success and the type of athletes we had at the time. We’re still going to throw the ball but we’re going to mix things up more than we have in the past,” stated coach Whisner.
ADM has indeed adopted more pass oriented offenses over the past few seasons, in fact, within the past four seasons, the Tigers have led their district in passing attempts twice (2013 & 2014) and never dropped below 3rd in passing attempts within those four seasons.
The Tigers goal for more balance with rushing would fit well with a successful trend as of late. When taking a look at district leaders over the past four seasons, only once has the team with the best record failed to earn the most rushing yards within the district.
The Tigers will continue on developing a more balanced approach as they commence with days 4 and 5 of practices this week. Due to the heat both today’s and tomorrows practices have been moved from their normal 4pm-7pm times to join the sun for 6am-8:30am practices.
