Longtime football coach Mark Sawhill is returning to the Greene County sidelines after a three-year hiatus. Sawhill is the varsity line coach for head coach Dean Lansman, and he brings a wealth of experience to the position. More than 25 years on football sidelines, most of that under former coach Bill Kibby, and also a short stint on the middle school level, all in Jefferson.
Coach Sawhill told Raccoon Valley Radio he’s enjoying being back, although he’s having do adjust to zone blocking schemes after primarily coaching man blocking. “It’s fun! The kids are working hard and they want to learn. I think we have four or five pretty good linemen, but we want to develop depth and have six or seven good ones. It’s a little bit hard to tell exactly what we have since we can’t have full contact until Saturday, but we have good numbers of kids out and that helps.”
The Rams will scrimmage Panorama in Panora on Aug. 19, then open the regular season vs. Kuemper Catholic in Carroll on Aug. 26. KG98 carries all the Greene County games and they will also be streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
