Official practice for football and the other high school Fall sports began just yesterday, but the football teams from Greene County and Panorama are just 10 days away from scrimmaging each other. The scrimmage will be in Panora on Friday, Aug. 19 and will not count on either teams’ record.
Scrimmaging another team a week before the regular season begins is in its fourth year and is optional in Iowa. Ram head coach Dean Lansman likes the scrimmage. “The scrimmage is down there at their new facility, which is very, very nice. We were down there this summer and played a day of 7-on-7 with them. It’s an opportunity for us to get everyone out on the field in a game situation. As a coaching staff we get to see how we’re going to work things. That will also be just one week out from game one, so you can look at different combinations of athletes on the field, and it has been very good from that standpoint.”
The Rams open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 26 in Carroll vs. Kuemper Catholic. All Greene County football games can be heard on KG98 and also streamed “live” on www.raccoonvalleyradiol.com.
