With temperatures and heat index values into the 90’s and triple digits for the foreseeable future, it’s important that everybody has a way to keep themselves cool at home.
Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says if running your air conditioner or buying a fan is a serious financial burden, there may be an organization in your community, such as a family resource center, to help out. “Contact them for energy assistance and things like that. Running the air conditioner on a limited income can be expensive, but it’s something that you need to do. Working with those folks to get some assistance, or maybe a fan to use, is an important thing to do.”
Additionally, Kempf recommends regularly checking in on elderly friends or neighbors during a heat wave.
