DSCN4400The 2016 Greene County Fair is officially in the books.

Monday was the last day of the fair and Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Kayla Hyett says there were over 200 4-H’ers involved in the junior premium auction. She describes how her first experience was running the 4-H portion of the fair.

“It’s a little different than from where I came from but you know what, fair is fair no matter what way you look at it. You might do it a little different way but in the end result, we all do it the same. I just enjoyed being here mostly, it is a passion of mine to go to the fair and it’s something that I really enjoy.”

On Friday was the crowning of this year’s county fair queen, Kara Betts. Last year’s queen, Abby Badger, got to crown Betts. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she’s excited to represent Greene County at the Iowa State Fair.

“Abby’s told me about her experiences and she said it’s an enjoyable time and then my mom also said that she thought that I would have a lot of fun down there. I can make new friends and it’ll be exciting.”

Betts also has a photography exhibit that qualified for state fair. She along with 38 other exhibits also qualified. This year’s round robin showmanship winner is Mason Burkett.

Hyett would like to thank everyone who helped make this year’s county fair a tremendous success. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will also there providing live coverage everyday of the fair.
