A Guthrie Center student will compete in the USA Junior Olympics this weekend in Sacramento, California.

The thrower, Maddie McDermott, qualified by placing in fifth place in both the discus and shot put during a recent regional meet at Mankato, Minnesota.

McDermott placed 18th in the shot put at the state track and field meet at Drake Stadium this spring.
