The Stuart City Council and Police Department are taking steps to make the detour route around the downtown construction safer and more clear.

The Police Department says city employees will be working  to switch out yield signs for stop signs at intersections along the busy detour route. Additionally, yield signs may be moved to the opposing sides of the intersection, as well. Motorists are advised to be aware of these changes as the signs at intersections may no longer be what you are used to seeing.

Additionally, more direct signage will be added along the route to make the detour more clear to outside motorists.

Plus, Police say they will begin enforcing traffic violations and be more visible along the route in an effort to slow traffic down.
