Baseball is a game of adjustments. Just ask Greene County head baseball coach Mark Sawhill. The coach has adjusted his pitching rotation, batting order, and defensive alignment throughout the course of the season, and the result has been a team that went 3-12 in the first 15 games to one that has won eight of its last 11 and stands at 11-5 heading into the regular season finale in Des Moines tonight vs. Heart of Iowa Activities Conference champion Saydel, a top five rated Class 3A team.

Talking specifically about defense, the coach said, “We had to find some different guys for different positions that felt comfortable. I kind of put some guys in positions that maybe weren’t as comfortable there as I thought they would be, and it didn’t work out. But, I think we did find the pieces eventually and put them in the right places.”

Following tonight’s game, the Rams are off Thursday, then open Class 3A District tournament play vs. top 10 ranked Boone in Boone on Friday night. The Rams and Toreadors can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Gilbert plays Ballard (Huxley) at 5 p.m. with the Greene County vs. Boone game to follow.
