The regular season closes tonight for the Greene County High School baseball team. Coach Mark Sawhill’s team travels to Des Moines to face top 10 rated Saydel in JV and varsity action. The Eagles are 26-6 and have already clinched the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference title while the Rams are 11-15. Greene County has played well in the second half, winning eight of their last 11 games. Saydel won the first meeting with the Rams by a 13-3 score in Jefferson.

Greene County goes from one top 10 opponent to another two days from now. The Rams open Class 3A District tournament play by facing Boone at Boone in the second half of a Friday, July 15 doubleheader. Gilbert meets Ballard (Huxley) in game one, followed by the Rams and Toreadors, sometime after 7 p.m.
